I never did Stronglifts or any of the other 3x5 or 5x5 programs, but everything I've ever heard is that they work as advertised if you do them as advertised. I just fucked around averaging about a workout a week for a decade and that kinda sucked.
Squatting every day is good. I started it right after a peaking program with a 350 max and hit a 375 max three months later. That's not a dramatic jump for those low numbers, but I'm 35 and had no noob gains left to exploit -- 25 pounds onto my ground-out, peaked, 100%, nothing-in-the-tank max in three months is GOOD.
After that, the wheels kinda came off. I was working on other stuff and my squat volume slipped. The problem there was that I was just peaked out: neurologically maxed, capable of eeking out every ounce on a single, but with depleted work capacity and no hypertrophy going on. I made Tuesday and Thursday volume days, with MWF for max singles, and I'm building back up.
